Experience Eye Disease

Without experience blinding eye diseases, it can be hard for seeing people to understand how a person with visual impairment moves through life. Thanks to the National Eye Institute, we are able to bring you some virtual reality (VR) eye disease experiences.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

AMD is a disease that happens in people as they get older. As the macula degenerates with age, people can experience blurriness or spots in the center of their vision. This forces them to rely on their peripheral vision.

Cataracts

Cataracts are another eye disease that typically occurs as a person ages. It causes the lens of the eye to get cloudy, which causes blurry vision, faded colors, light sensitivity, poor night-vision, and even double vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes can cause many secondary diseases including diabetic retinopathy. It affects the blood vessels in the retina and causes blurry vision, floating spots in vision, and eventually it can cause total blindness.

Glaucoma

There are several different kinds of glaucoma including open-angle glaucoma (the most common), angle-closure glaucoma, and congenital glaucoma. Glaucoma causes peripheral vision loss and blindness by damaging the optic nerve.
